Soccer: Bohs fail to close Premier gap

In the Eircom League Premier Division tonight Bohemians failed to close the gap on leaders Shelbourne as they could only manage a 0-0 draw with Derry City at Dalymount Park. A win for Bohemians would have moved them to within a point of leaders Shelbourne who are away to Finn Harps tomorrow night. Elsewhere, in the first division Dundalk defeated Saint Francis 2-0 at John Hyland Park. David Crawley scored the first from the penalty spot after 22 minutes and Andy Riley got the second in the closing minutes. Dundalk move into second spot equal on points with Longford Town. The game between Limerick FC and Home Farm Fingal was called off.

The first division match to be played at Hogan Park and scheduled to start at 7.45, was called-off 5 minutes before kick-off because the pitch was unplayable. There was no pitch inspection earlier in the day, and referee, Jimmy O'Neill, abandoned the game because the surface wasn't playable.

In other news, following a case today in the High Court regarding the registration of the Bohemian's player David Williamson with the Eircom League, the club have stated that they acted properly, and in accordance with the rules relating to the signing and registration of the player, and it has been accepted by all parties that the registration should have been accepted. However, after represenations and in the interests of football, Bohs have decided not to play Williamson for the rest of the season. Williamson played in last Friday's 3-0 win over Drogheda United.

Meanwhile the postponed Premier Division game between Galway United and Cork City has been re-scheduled for Tuesday March 14 at Terryland Park with a 7.30pm kick-off.
