Roy Keane claims he has no complaints over his sending off during Manchester United's 3-0 defeat at Newcastle. While Keane was disappointed to be sent-off for the sixth time in his Old Trafford career, he also had sympathy for referee Steve Lodge. Keane says that the ref has a hard enough job to do and you just have to take the punishment when it comes your way. Keane's statement comes in the wake of a warning by the Premier League to both United and Leeds to keep their cool in this weekend's potentially explosive top of the table game. Last week saw a spate of incidents that were both intimidatory to referees and violent towards players. Leeds, along with Tottenham, were charged with misconduct following the ugly confrontations at Elland Road while United are themselves clearly on a final warning after showing considerable dissent towards officials in their past three games.
Referees' officer Don has appealed for all players and managers to start playing their part in the wake of the advances towards greater discretion currently being made by referees.
Meanwhile, the English FA are considering asking Chelsea to let them view video footage from a closed circuit TV camera in the tunnel in which Chelsea and Wimbledon players and staff clashed on Saturday. The FA have already charged both clubs with misconduct, while Dennis Wise, Kenny Cunningham and coach Mick Harford also face a disciplinary hearing.
