The FAI does not have the unqualified backing of the Eircom League clubs for their proposed new Stadium, Eircom Park, despite the financial benefits that Chief Executive Bernard O'Byrne has said it would bring to the association. While praising O'Byrne for getting the Stadium issue on to the national agenda, Shelbourne chairman Gary Brown is one league member concerned with the project.
Meanwhile, Division 1 leaders Longford Town are set to begin development of a new stand at their Strokestown Road ground. In the event that they get promotion they'll need the stand to meet the minimum facilities requirements for Premier division clubs.
