In the Eircom League Premier Division, Shamrock Rovers could only manage a 0-0 draw against bottom of the table, Drogheda United last night. Rovers Graham Lawlor was sent-off in the second-half but his side still managed a victory. At St. Colemans' Park, Cobh Ramblers were beaten 3-0 by Dundalk. Izzi got the first goal for Cobh after 37 minutes, and this was followed by a Whelan effort after 48 minutes. Izzi struck again in the 85th minute to seal it for Cobh. Ward was sent off after 68 minutes.
Meanwhile, in the first Division Monaghan United overcame Limerick FC 5-2. Smyth opened the scoring for Monagahan after 12 minutes. Limerick were awarded a penalty after 15 minutes which Finnan duly converted. Monaghan then took over, with goals from McCarville on 29 minutes, Brown after 56 minutes, Nataro after 78 minutes and Smyth scored again for the hosts on 80 minutes. Dunphy snatched a late consolation for Limerick right on 90 minutes.
