Soccer: Shelbourne draw with Galway

In the Eircom League Premier Division the leaders, Shelbourne, were last night held to a draw by Galway United. Shelbourne’s James Keddy put Shels one goal up with 20 minutes remaining. But four minutes later, Galway United equalised, and they hung on to end the game at one a piece.

Elsewhere, 2nd-placed Bohemians were looking for a win to stay in touch when they met Waterford Utd at the R.S.C. Bohemians were reduced to ten men on the stroke of half-time, with the sending off of Jamie Harris for a second bookable offence. However, they escaped with a point following some courageous goalkeeping by Michael Dempsey, which kept the score at 0-0.

St Patricks Athletic could have moved into third spot had they beaten Derry City in Inchicore. However, Pats came back to snatch a share of the points – the game ending 1-1.

Meanwhile, in the First Division, Bray Wanderers missed a chance to retake the top-spot when Athlone Town held them to a one-all draw.
