Soccer: Corinthians win World Final in penalty shoot-out

Corinthians won the all-Brazilian final of the inaugral World Club Championship against Vasco Da Gama 4-3 on penalties after Vasco captain Edmundo blazed his kick wide of goal. The penalty showdown came after a tense, physical and hugely disappointing match in which both teams were more interested in defending and cancelling each other out.

The teams had remained level 0-0 after extra-time. Mexican side, Necaxa, secured third place after also winning on penalties, beating Spain's Real Madrid 4-3 in the shoot-out. Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman was one of the culprits who missed their spot kick for Madrid. The game had finished 1-1 after Raul put the Spaniards ahead after 14 minutes only for Delgado to level things in the second half.
