Soccer: FAI cup draw announced

Cup holders Bray face a tough game against Derry in the FAI Cup second round on January 9. Elsewhere Shamrock Rovers are at home to Cork City, League leaders Shelbourne are away to St Francis, Bohemians travel to Cobh while Galway United are once again drawn against St Pats. Off the pitch Drogheda who face Bangor Celtic in the FAI Cup are on the look-out for a manager after the resignation of Martin Lawlor.

The rest of the draw is as follows: Clonmel v Rockmount; Athlone v Limerick; Sligo v Blubell; Monaghan v UCD; Kilkenny v Dundalk; Fairview Rangers v College Corinthians; Swilly Rovers v Parkvilla; Longford Town v Waterford; St Mochtas v Evergreen and Finn Harps v Home Farm.

Galway United moved off the bottom of the table with a 3-1 win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park yesterday. A hat-trick was provided by Kieran Foley who normally operates as a centre-half but was asked yesterday to play as a striker by manager Don O'Riordan. The move certainly paid off dividends. It’s been a good weekend for Shelbourne. They find themselves 5 points clear at the top of the Eircom League Premier Division today after Cork City were held to a 2-2 draw by UCD at Belfield Park. But Cork will be quite happy with the point coming as it does after two successive defeats. And in the first Division, Kilkenny City won 5-1 at Monaghan United and Athlone beat Saint Francis 1-0.
