Newcastle United Keeper Shay Given has been ruled out of the Irish squad for the European Championship play-off matches with Turkey next month. Given suffered a wrist injury in Newcastle's win over Derby on Monday. It is another blow for Given who only recently returned to action after undergoing a knee operation at the end of last season. He is likely to be out of action until next spring at the earliest. Yesterday Sunderland's Paul Butler was added to Mick McCarthy's preliminary squad for the games against Turkey.
