90 min Full-time South Africa 0-3 Uruguay
90 min South Africa 0-3 Uruguay Forlan finds Suarez just inside the right of the penalty area with a sublime pass. The striker controls the ball with his first touch before executing a deft volleyed cross which is headed home by Pereira.
89 min Gargano is on for Perez.
89 min Cavani has finally been replaced as Uruguay run down the clock. We’ve another Fernandez on the pitch in the shape of Sebastian Fernandez.
87 min Everything is going Uruguay’s way. Even Cavani manages to hit the target.
83 min The South African exodus has started in Pretoria. It’s not just a case of game over, but campaign over for the hosts.
79 min South Africa 0-2 Uruguay Sub keeper Josephs comes on for Pienaar, but he can’t deny Forlan. The Uruguayan slots his spot-kick into the top left corner. A brilliant penalty.
76 min South Africa keeper Khune is dismissed for bringing Suarez down when through on goal. Definitely a penalty, but a red card looks harsh.
73 min More abject play from the hosts that hardly warrants description. Uruguay haven’t won this match, South Africa have lost it.
72 min Cavani misses the target with another poor effort. Haul him off, gaffer.
71 min Uruguay make a change. Fernandez on for Fucile.
68 min A Forlan cross from the left is scuffed wide by the ineffectual Cavani.
66 min Gaxa crosses from the right, but Mphela need a glancing header to get the ball on target for the hosts. His solid contact directed the ball to the right and wide.
62 min The selfish Pereira drives the ball over the bar from the right said of the penalty area.
57 min The comically named Surprise Moriri is on for Reneilwe Letsholonyane. Maybe his parents are Quakers, or perhaps he just wasn’t planned.
53 min Lugano mistimes his header from a Forlan free. He should have at least hit the target.
52 min Suarez drives into the box and goes down easily in search of a pen. The ref waves away penalty appeals, much to the chagrin of the striker. His open-mouthed astonishment lends an absurdity to the match as he’s got a mouth full of cotton wool after picking up a blood injury.
50 min A Forlan free from the left near the byline goes over the heads of the South African defence, it also misses the Uruguay attackers.
Half-timer banter Malahide’s Thomas Reddy emails from Pretoria: ‘I cant believe how cold it is here in Pretoria, can you imagine I'm missing the heat in Ireland?!!! Bafana looking unimaginative, Uruguay to score again I think.’
It’s positively tropical here in Dublin today, Thomas.
Our esteemed colleague Rob Wright tipped (and backed) Switzerland this afternoon, a fact not lost on emailer Kevin Kelehan in Westminster. It’s hard to find a bookie willing to take a decent bet these days, but Rob did. He’s hired a forklift truck to carry his winning home. Game over.
45 min Half-time South Africa 0-1 Uruguay Uruguay look comfortable and have a little too much guile for the Africans. They should earn all three points this evening. The worry would be that they could take their collective foot of the gas and sit back in an effort to protect their narrow advantage in the second half. Uruguay need more goals, we all do.
43 min South Africa’s Dikgacoi will miss the next game after picking up a yellow card. The midfielder was induced into making a reckless challenge by Suarez.
40 min Mphela meets a cross from the right with a decent header, but it barely constituted a half-chance and his effort sails over the bar.
35 min Tshabalala is a frustrating player. He may have scored in the opener, but there is a desperation about his play. He continues to cede possession in good areas. He’s also wearing an ostentatious hairband.
33 min Suarez continues to look lively. The ball reaches him in the area, but he drives his effort into the side netting. A cross/shot across the face of goal may have been the better option. Selfish strikers, eh?
30 min Pienaar attempting to engineer chances to get his side back into the game. He’s more than capable of pulling the strings, but the puppets look limited.
24 min South Africa 0-1 Uruguay Forlan opens the scoring with a spectacular shot from 30 yards out. The strike dipped viciously, edging just under the crossbar. The ferocious spin may well have been generated by a Mokoena deflection. Captain fantastic, we think not.
23 min Bafana Bafana - a term of endermeant which means ‘the boys, the boys’, if you must know - have worked their way back into the game after a sluggish start. Shots from Perez and Suarez means the hosts shouldn’t attempt to rest on their laurels, however.
19 min A Modise dives wins a free for South Africa to the right of the penalty box. Tshabalala lofted cross is cleared, eventually.
16 min A fluid move from the hosts comes to nothing when Tshabalala attempts an audacious lob from the edge of the area. Pienaar was free and unmarked on the overlap. Profligate play.
14 min South Africa’s Tshabalala blasts a speculative shot over the bar and wide from 30 yards out.
10 min Baby, it’s cold outside. The huddled figures on the hosts’ bench are clad in lagging jackets but still seem to be feeling the chill.
7 min Suarez shoots wide from inside, albeit from a acute angle as Uruguay assert themselves on the game in the early stages.
5 min Uruguay are awarded a free kick just outside the South Africa area. Pienaar breaks from the wall and picks up an early yellow card for a handball. Forlan’s second attempt is a poor one, as he hammers his effort into the well-marshalled wall.
3 min ‘It matters more when there’s money it,’ as one major bookmaker’s slogan goes. The hosts were 11-4 on the betting exchanges at the off, Uruguay were 11-8, with the draw at 2-1.
2 min Both teams will realise that victory this evening will give them a great chance of advancing from the group phase. The line-ups look more offensive than in the opening and the early play suggests an open game is in store.
1930 Kick-off
1908 Teams are in:

Tshabalala, Pienaar, Modise, Letsholonyane, Dikgacoi, Katlego Mphela

1905 Welcome back to our live text commentary as we build up to the South Africa v Uruuguay match.
1716 Karl Byrne was not happy with the Spanish: 'Was very disappointed with Spain today for all there superstars they have none of them really took a stand and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Fair play to Switzerland who battled hard and defended well. It’s been a poor world cup so far and let’s hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.
Watch out for Diego Forlan tonight im predicting 2-0 with Forlan to get the first.
1714 Some reactions to the Swiss victory and Morgan McHugh has congratulation for our winning bet today on the Swiss: 'You can only jinx your own bets.... great price for Switzerland 11/1. Keep up the good work, no access to live action at work other than this commentary.'
Full-time! Switzerland have claimed a famous victory. All the focus will be on Spain's failues but take nothing away from the Swiss, this was a brilliantly disciplined display that earned a hard-fought win.
The second half was probably the best entertainment we've had thus far in the tournament.
90+4 min Yakin's handball just outside the left corner of the Swiss penalty area gives Alonso a chance at goal but the wall blocks his effort only for Villa to pick it up, however his cross misses out everyone and it's cleared again.
90+2 min A freekick on the loft for Spain allows Xabi to cross into the danger zone but Benaglio out-jumps everyone and punches it away.
90 min Five minutes of injury time, can Switzerland hold on? Benaglio is booked for time wasting while the brilliantly named Mario Egggimann comes on for Barnetta.
88 min Villa chests a ball through for Torres to run on to, but his touch is too heavy and it's an easy take for Benaglio.
86 min This really is compelling stuff. Switzerland are playing on the edge of their penalty area as Spain launch attack after attack against them. A Navas volley is ballooned over the bar to give them some brief respite.
84 min It's just not falling for Spain. Navas, who has been a revelation out on the right floats a tempting ball deep into the Swiss boss which Villa flicks on for Torres but the Liverpool man can't connect and it's again cleared to safety.
82 min Spain are starting to look ragged and Switzerland are having a lot of joy on the break now. A burst forward from the Swiss ended with Barnetta's drive just sailing over the bar.
80 min Hakan Yakin, who seems to have been around forever, replaces Derdiyok, who has enjoyed an excellant second half.
77 min 'Your €5 at 11/1 is looking good now,' says Morgan McHugh, who has clearly never heard of jinxing bets! Just as I type that, Navas goes close to levelling with a low, powerful drive that sails just wide of Benaglio's left post. Navas has been a real threat since coming on.
74 min Switzerland, absurdly, almost double their lead. Derdiyok picks up a long ball forward, deep in the Spanish half, before skipping through the challenges of Puyol and Pique. He works himself into a shooting position and a deft flick of his right foot takes the ball past Casillas, but back off the post. That would have been a fine goal.
72 min Ziegler is booked for a foul on Navas. The Swiss defender is having all kinds of problems with the Spanish winger.
71 min Ziegler fails to deal with Navas out on the right and substitute beats his man before blasting a shot straight at the goalkeeper. It was from a tight angle but you have to wonder how many more chances Spain can throw away.
69 min Torres has definately given Spain a new attacking dimension up front. His burst down the left earns Spain a corner, which is played low to Alonso on the edge of the penalty area and his rasping effort cannons back off the crossbar. Spain are looking more and more dangerous.
67 min Spain break from a rare Swiss attack, but Villa's ball to Torres is slightly behind the Liverpool man and he has to check back before he lofts the ball wide.
64 min 'Fabregas has to start above Busquets, He wasn't started in the Euros two years ago and when he did come on he was by far their best performer. He has also played a limited amount of games this season so he should be fresh,' says Seamus Kennedy.
Gotta admit I'm pretty surprised del Bosque hasn't brought him on yet. You can understand him not starting with concerns over his match fitness, but he should be on by now.
63 min Iniesta goes oh-so close with a beautifully bending shot from the edge of the penalty area that just drifts wide. Benaglio was left stranded.
61 min Del Bosque finally shakes things up, bringing on Torres and Navas with Busquets and Silva coming off.
60 min Benaglio comes to Switzerlands rescue as Alonso plays a perfectly weighted through ball for Villa to run on to, but the Spanish striker is just beaten to the ball by the goalkeeper.
58 min Iniesta plays a nice square ball to Villa 18 yards out from, but his shot is easily dealt with by goalkeeper Benaglio.
54 min If Switzerland were defensive at 0-0, expect them to camp inside their own penalty area now. Spain haven't been able to break them down at all and del Bosque must be thinking about making changes now.
51 min GOAL! Switzerland. Gelson Fernandes breaks the deadlock with a break away goal. A long punt forward from the goalkeeper is won by Derdiyok, who plays a one-two with Fernandes and bursts through on goal. Goalkeeper Casillas tackles him but the ball hits Pique, who stumbles and then collides with his goalkeeper, leaving Fernades to poke the ball home.
49 min Alonso must have read my half-time criticism of him because he's playing in a much more advanced position and his curving shot from the left is narrowly delfected behind for a corner.
47 min A raking cross-field pass from Alonso puts Spain on the front foot early one with a corner-kick. The Real Madrid midfielder is then involved in a training ground routine corner, but blazes his shot over the bar.
46 min Spain get the second-half underway after neither manager elects to make any half-time changes.
1552 Allan Stanger says: 'Spain lack the creativity and drive of Fabregas and cutting edge and finishing ability of Torres obviously Del Bosque doesn't watch the Premiership. Alonso and Busquets two defensive midfield players all a bit too safe!'
Slightly harsh on Busquets, who has been impressive, but Alonso has had little influence on the game. It's difficult to see when Del Bosque has him sitting in front of the back four against a team with no intention of attacking, and it's a game that's crying out for the likes of Fabregas and Torres in particular. Spain look much more dangerous when playing down the wings and Torres would give them a great outlet out wide.
Half-time It's another 0-0 half-time scoreline at the World Cup as Switzerland's attempts to stiffle Spain are working well. You can't really blame them for their tactics, but it doesn't exactly make for an exciting encounter.
44 min It's Villa again as the recently signed Barcelona striker scampers clear down the left, he's pushed out wide and his attempts to lob the goalkeeper fail to come to fruition.
43 min Some beautiful footwork from Villa on the edge of the Swiss penalty area gives him the time and space to pull the ball back to the on-rushing Iniesta, but he blazes his shot over the crossbar.
40 min 'I was worried that Switzerland would shut up shop and play for the 0-0 which would appear to be the case. This World Cup has been a triumph of negativity so far. Come on Spain!' says Willie McLoughney, and it's hard to argue with him.
38 min The game is opening up slightly with Switzerland enjoying more posession and becoming slightly more adventurous Barnetta helps win them a corner down the right, but the delivery is poor and easily dealt with.
35 min Switzerland make the first change of the afternoon with Phillipe Senderos going off after picking up an injury in a collision with a teammate. Steve von Bergen replaces the distraught Senderos.
34 min Spain have cottoned on to the fact that playing everything down the middle may not be the way to go and have started working the flanks. Capdevila floats in a lovely, teasing cross from the left which Villa heads back across goal but there's no-one there to finish it.
29 min Swiss defender Grichting is booked for a foul on Iniesta just on the edge of the penalty area. Spain want a penalty but replays show that referee Howard Webb made the fight call. David Villa's effort from the deal ball hits the wall and goes behind for a corner which Switzerland deal with comfortably.
28 min Dare I say it, but Switzerland look comfortable. Pique's effort aside, Spain have been reduced to half-chances and hopeful long range efforts. A bit more width up front with the introduction of Torres could shake things up.
26 min Reto Ziegler has Switzerland's first shot on goal from a well worked free-kick on the edge of the penalty area but Casillias parries the shot and has time and space to gather the ball at the second time of asking.
24 min What was that about Pique? The Barcelona defender who stayed in attack after wandering up front for a free-kick is brilliantly picked out in space in the box by Iniesta. Pique has time to pick his shot but blasts it straight at the goalkeeper, and a golden chance goes a begging.
21 min A long range effort from Iniesta is earily gathered by Benaglio, and Spain get the ball back to start again. It's an old cliche but the game needs a goal, preferably a Spanish one to force Switzerland to try and get out of their own half.
17 min There's just a few signs that Spain are starting to open up Switzerland, and they have an effort on goal courtesy of a scuffed David Silva effort. It's easily dealt with by Benaglio however.
14 min An optimistic Gary Murphy e-mails in to say: 'Finally a team that actually play ball are on thank the heavens above prediction time 3-0 Spain and Villa to open his account. Why did Fergie let Pique leave?'
Because he's not very good would by my suggestion Gary. Spain's back line remains the one doubt surrounding them and Pique can be a liability.
12 min It's all a bit too compact and central for Spain with little threat down the flanks, they're going to have to stretch Switzerland to break them down.
9 min The first meaningful foray forward from Switzerland results in a corner kick, but it doesn't beat Xabi Alonso on the front post and Spain break away with Villa bursting into the penalty area only to see goalkeeper Benaglio take the ball off his toes.
6 min It's been all Spain early on with Switzerland seemingly happy to concede posession, sitting back and soaking up the pressure - it's going to be some task to do it for 90 minutes though.
4 min Stephane Grichting's clumsy challenge on the lively Sergio Busquets gives Spain an early freekick from a promising position, but the delivery is poor and easily dealt with by the Swiss defence.
2 min Switzerland have set their stall out to play on the break early on, with two banks of four protecting the goalkeeper and Blaise Nkufo ploughing a lone furrow up front.
1 min With the anthems and pre-match formalities out of the way, English referee Howard Webb gets things underway.
1448 An interesting stat that shows just why Spain are so fancied to win the World Cup - since winning Euro 2008, they've played 26 games, winning 25 and scoring 75 goals. I'm starting to regret sticking that fiver on Switzerland.
1438 Spainish boss Vincente del Bosque is clearly not willing to gamble on the fitness of Fernando Torres in a game that many expect Spain to win at a canter. I'm not so sure and reckon that the Swiss will give them a couple of problems. Switzerland are a generous 11/1 to win, if you feel so inclined.
1432 Spain and Switzerland have named their teams for the upcoming Group H game in Port Elizabeth.
Teams: Spain: Casillas; Ramos, Pique, Puyol, Capdevila; Silva, Alonso Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta, David Villa.
Switzerland: Benaglio; Grichting, Lichtsteiner, Senderos, Ziegler; 7 Barnetta, 8 Inler, 6 Huggel, Fernandes; Derdiyok, Nkufo.
1425 Deserved win for Chile. They have players who are very comfortable on the ball. Even though they will be disappointed not to have scored more, they have the look of a side who good some way in the tournament.
94 min GAME OVER - HONDURAS 0-1 CHILE
93 min Honduras force two corners, but Chile break out and Fernandez' shot goes over.
1420 News in for the next match and FERNADO TORRES WILL NOT START for Spain in their match against Switzerland.
90 min Ball sits up nicely for Gonzalez, but he ca't make the most of it.
89 min Isla tries to find Fernandez, but the latter takes his eye off it when it mattered most. Honduras counter attack sees Georgie Welcome blaze over.
86 min Bravo, the Chilean goalkeeper has been very assured throughout. He has not been overly extended, however, but what he has had to do, he's done well. Former Liverpool player Mark Gonzalez is on for Chile.
83 min Prayers are being offered by the fans of Honduras in the crowd. Their team need to get forward more, but they are being pinned back. Chile have been very adept at closing down the opposition.
81 min The experienced Contreras is on for Chile in place of Vidal as Medel's clear header goes narrowly wide. Offside flag is again raised.
80 min Honduras sub as Martinez on for Nunez.
77 min Honduras can't clear their lines as they strive to get the ball up to their three-pronged attack.
74 min Valdivia puts the ball in the next after a decent strike from Chile, but the flag goes up for offside. They need that second goal.
72 min Valdivia is back on, but is limping. Earlier Honduras sub as Thomas on for Guevara
71 min Chile's Valdivia has picked up a dead leg. Feeling the pain on his right thigh and has gone off for treatment. Chilean back four now playing much deeper.
69 min Players on both sides are showing some signs of fatigue. Nevertheless, the work rate of Honduras defender Figueroa is top class. He has put in some fine tackles.
67 min Georgie Welcome, on the field for seven or so minutes, is certainly putting himself about for Honduras. He is the obvious outlet for any long punt.
64 min Best save of the World Cup from Valladares as Ponces' header should have found the net, but the keeper performed admirable heroics.
61 min Sanchez has a wonderful opportunity to put the game to bed, but he pulls his shot and fails to test the keeper. 1-0 lead is a dangerous lead. Just ask the Slovaks in their match against New Zealand.
60 min Georgie Welcome on for Honduras with Pavon going off.
57 min Chile's Sanchez (who plays for Udineze) has picked up a bit of a knock. He should be okay. The free-kicks from Fernandez are very well delivered. You get the feeling that one will eventually deliver something telling.
53 min Chilean sub as Jara comes on for Rodrigo Millar.
52 min Chile left back Isla had a great chance but his shot is well saved by Valladares. Ruled off for offside in any event.
50 min Honduras forced to scramble the ball away as Chile continue the same tempo from the first half.
49 min Sanchez again goes on a clever run for Chile and he nearly gets Beausejour in, but he tackled fairly. Lively start to second period.
47 min Honduras' Alvarez though he had a penalty, but Medel's (known as the pitbull) tackle was a clean one.
1334 Second half is underway and Didi Hamann can't see any way back for Honduras.
1330 Brian Kavanagh e-mailed in about his thoughts of the RTÉ coverage: 'I am from England (though of Irish stock as my name below suggests) but I have to go to your website for real analysis. The quality of coverage on English tv is not as good with no reference to the pattern of the play and the underlying tactics. Your guys go so much deeper than that and help to educate the listener.
I struggle trying to discuss things with England supporting friends about the failings in their national team as they think they played very well because they had quite a few goalscroing chances but can't understand anything about tactics and what these indicate. I therefore direct them to your site if they want to hear analysis that is beyond simple. I may not always agree with their views but at least the likes of Dunphy, Stevens, Souness (when he is on RTÉ anyway) and Giles are insightful and get beyond just the incidents. Pass on the congratulations to the whole team, from the producers who allow this to the whole studio team. Good job!!! Thanks for that Brian.
1323 Eamon ranks Chile alongside Germany as the 'teams' of the tournament so far.
1319 Michael Kearney e-mailed in about the film Missing. I can tell you Michael that I thought it was a very well made and powerful film, irrespective of which channel it was shown on.
1318 HALF TIME Honduras 0-1 Chile
45 min Nunez' free-kick forces Chile keeper Bravo to tip the ball over.
43 min Valdivia's effort goes over the bar as Chile yet again open up the Honduran defence far too easily. Ref has deemed Valdivia's foot was a bit high. Wilson Palacios and his midfiled partner Guevara need to give the Honduran defence a bit more protection.
42 min - Seamus Geoghegan e-mails in and reminds us of that skilful Chilean Marcelo Salas.
40 min Optimistic effort from Honduran midfielder Nunez - a rare attempt from the side playing in white in this match. Chile in red top/blue shorts.
36 min Deserved lead for Chile and they are still playing some delightful one-touch stuff. Sanchez are Valdivia are combining well for the Chileans.
34 min Alexis Sanchez is all action for Chile and as I write GOAL GOAL, GOAL and Beausejour puts Chile ahead after a cross by Isla is slotted into the net.
30 min Wilson Palaciois has made a vital interception to quell a Chilean thrust. Eamon Dunphy rated this player highly before the match and he's certainly making his presence felt on the pitch.
28 min Chile's Vidal is a very attack minded defender. I must say these Chile lads pass the ball very well. Talking about the country I saw an excellent film last week entitled 'Missing' about an American who went missing in Chile during the Pinochet regime. Brilliant performance by Jack Lemmon and a poignant soundtrack by Vangelis.
25 min This Sanchez fellow for Chile is willing to take the full-backs and is causing problems for Honduras. The Chileans looking the most likely so far. Honduras, playing with one man up front.
20 min Back to the match and Honduras have had a few efforts on goal. Yet Chile, with good play by Sanchez, feeds in Valdivia whose shot is well saved.
16 min Gary Murphy feels this game will not offer many goals: 'News flash for your colleagues. There will not be plenty of goals in this game. The teams are too negative. Why does every team need two holding midfielders and just one central striker. What about the glory days of 4-4-2 with two midfielders that get up and down and two strikers that play off each other. Happy Days! The negativity in football is why this World Cup has been so frustrating to watch. Not one player has really stood out. Give me the Champions League Any day of the week.'
12 min RTÉ co-commentator has his say on the World Cup football. Much talked about I know, but it ceratinly helped Maicon in his brilliant finish for Brazil last night.
8 min Chile's Vidal tries his luck from long range and the Honduras goalkeeper Valldares does not hold the shot cleanly. Granted, it did take a bit of a swerve in flight.
7 min My colleagues think there will be goals in this clash and a couple of Chile's attacks bode well for what will be hopefully be an entertaining clash.
5 min Chile have settled the best with the emphasis on fast one-touch football.
4 min Yellow card for Chile's Carmona for a rather silly challenge.
2 min Early chance for Chile as a Fernandez (pin-up boy of Chilean football) free-kick scrapes paint off the crossbar.
1233 Denis Forde has his thoughts on the domestic game and says: ' With the world cup in full flight lets not forget about our domestic leagues. Finn Harps have a big game against Shelbourne on 25 June. Lets all get on board to support.'
1232 The game is underway. Let's hope for goals and entertainment.
1228 It's 48 years since Chile won a match at the World Cup. They last qualified for the finals in 1998
1227 The national anthems are being played.
1212 On this day 28 years ago Honduras held Spain to a 1-1 draw at the 1982 World Cup, while Algeria defeated Germany 2-1 and Bryan Robson scored the fastest ever World Cup goal as England defeated France 3-1.
