World champion Zhao Xintong held off a fightback from Chris Wakelin to edge a last-frame decider and reach the semi-finals of the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong.
Zhao had looked in control after taking a 4-1 lead with a break of 84 before Wakelin rallied with runs of 91, 76 and 118, but eventually closed out the ninth frame 79-34.
Zhou Yuelong also progressed with a 5-4 win over Ali Carter – who had fought back with three successive breaks of 88 – to make it an all-Chinese semi-final line-up for the first time in a ranking event following earlier victories for Xiao Guodong and Zhang Anda at the Kai Tak Arena.
Xiao – who beat Masters champion Kyren Wilson and Ronnie O'Sullivan in previous rounds – made four half-century breaks as well as a run of 122 as he saw off Si Jiahui 5-2.
World number 13 Wu Yize was beaten 5-2 by compatriot Zhang, who finished strongly with a highest break of 135.
