Aaron Hill was no match for four-time world champion Mark Selby in the opening round of the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong this morning, going down to a 5-0 defeat.
Selby reeled off breaks of 83, 101, 90, 94 and 76 to give the Cork potter little opportunity in the match.
Hill's biggest contribution was 17 in the final frame before Selby sealed the win.
Elsewhere there was something of an upset as Masters champion Kyren Wilson lost 5-2 to Xiao Guodong.
The Chinese player was excellent throughout the match with contributions of 87, 86, 50 and 54 part of the victory.
Zhou Yuelong defeated Stephen Maguire 5-2 and Elliot Slessor saw off Stuart Bingham by the same scoreline.
In the evening session, Masters runner-up Wu Yize continued his recent form with a 5-3 win over Scotland's Anthony McGill, narrowly missing the last red on a double to the middle pocket when making a maximum attempt on 112 in the seventh frame.
Barry Hawkins crafted a 141 clearance in frame six of his 5-3 win over Ding Junhui, veteran Mark Williams was beaten 5-2 by Zhang Anda, and Chang Bingyu edged out Jack Lisowski in a last-frame decider to set up a second-round match against compatriot Wu.
Ronnie O’Sullivan is also taking part with his clash with Joe O’Connor scheduled for Wednesday.
Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen takes on Ali Carter in the second session on Wednesday.
