Mark Allen was defeated 5-0 by Shaun Murphy in the last 16 of the German Masters in Berlin this afternoon.

Allen was woefully out of form in the encounter, struggling throughout, with his highest break just 25.

Murphy made one century, a 125 in the first frame, but did not need to be at his best to reach the quarter-finals.

Murphy raced into a 4-0, after an outrageous fluke in the first frame.

But the former world champion took advantage of his bit of luck, which had seen a red fall into the middle pocket after he'd missed his intended red, to push clear.

After being dominated in the first two frames, Allen had chances in the third, and was unlucky to go in-off from a pink, but he couldn't finish the job.

And another chance went amiss in the fourth to send Allen into the interval with his back against the wall. And Allen, who will turn 40 next month, pushed a red into the jaws in the fifth to gift Murphy a chance to win the match, which he duly took.

World number one Judd Trump closed out a 5-2 win over Si Jiahui to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Trump, a three-time winner of the event, had looked in control when taking a 3-1 lead into the mid-session interval.

Si, though, capitalised on some wayward shots from the world number one to take a scrappy sixth frame 74-29 before Trump recovered his composure in the seventh to get over the line 79-15.

Elsewhere Masters champion Kyren Wilson won 5-2 against Zhang Anda, while Jimmy Robertson was also a 5-2 victor against Jak Jones.

Neil Robertson had a whitewash success over India's Ishpreet Chadda 5-0.
