Mark Allen was victorious in his German Masters first round match with Oliver Lines at the Tempodrom in Berlin this afternoon.
Allen made breaks of 58, 59, 61, 74 and 99 on the way to a 5-3 success over the Englishman.
He has been joined in the next stage by fellow Northern Irishman Jordan Brown.
The Antrim Ferrari had a tough draw against China's Wu Yize, but illness forced Wu to withdraw, handing Brown a walkover.
Allen will play Gao Yang in the next round, with Brown set to take on Welsh potter Jak Jones.
Kyren Wilson began the defence of his title with an emphatic 5-1 win over Robert Milkins in Berlin.
Wilson, who returned to form by winning his maiden Masters title earlier this month, delivered four half-centuries or better as he raced into round two.
Barry Hawkins, whom Wilkins edged in a final-frame decider in last year's final, scored back-to-back centuries in a 5-2 win over veteran Mark Davis.
After losing the first frame, Mark Williams reeled off five in a row to beat Sanderson Lam 5-1, while Shaun Murphy also won.
