Antrim's Mark Allen recorded his second 4-0 win at the Scottish Open as he eased past China’s Wang Yuchen.

Allen had opened up his tournament with a commanding 4-0 win over Ishpreet Singh Chadha on Tuesday, and he had little trouble on Wednesday, sealing his progression to the next round with a break of 109 in the fourth frame.

Chinese opposition awaits again on Thursday as he faces Zhang Anda, who recorded a 4-0 win over Matthew Stevens, for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Home favourite John Higgins’ pursuit of a third national title – and a first since 1996 – came to an end with a 4-0 loss to Noppon Saengkham in Edinburgh.

Fellow Scot Anthony McGill also failed to pick up a frame against Chris Wakelin.

Mark Selby maintained his fine form to cruise into the last 16 of the by beating Iran's Hossein Vafaei 4-0.

World number six Selby, who announced his return to the top of the sport after a long spell in the doldrums by winning the UK Championship earlier this month, made breaks of 70 and 75 before sealing victory with a score of 131.

Zhao Xintong opened with a 146-clearance against Joe O'Connor, but the reigning world champion won just one more frame in a 4-2 defeat as the Englishman hit back with the help of scores of 97 and 51.

Kyren Wilson, world champion in 2024, made light work of China’s Pang Junxu and Stuart Bingham was also a 4-1 winner, beating 2018 runner-up Shaun Murphy.
