There was mixed fortunes on Wednesday for the Irish players at the Snooker Shoot Out in Blackpool with Ken Doherty, Jordan Brown and Robbie McGuigan progressing to the second round.

Doherty overcame Poland's Mateuesz Baranowski, while McGuigan defeated China's Jiang Jun.

Leone Crowley was beaten by Iran's Amir Sarkhosh, with 18-year-old Joel Connolly losing to a fellow teenager in Lan Yuhao from China.

Robbie McGuigan also progressed to the second round

In the evening session Jordan Brown defeated his fellow countryman Fergal Quinn.

Former winner of the tournament Mark Allen is in action on Thursday afternoon, as is Limerick 18-year-old Jack O'Brien who makes a first appearance in a WST event against 2015 world champion Stuart Bingham.

Aaron Hill competes in the evening session.
