Cork's Aaron Hill made the first 147 of his career at the English Open in Brentwood.
The 23-year-old hit the maximum in the first frame of his meeting with Yao Pengchang and went on to win 4-2 for a place in round three.
It was the ninth 147 of the season so far and put Hill on course for the £5,000 highest break prize.
He will face Scotland's Stephen Maguire in the next round.
Matthew Stevens lost his all-Welsh clash 4-3 to Dylan Emery and Liam Pullen beat 19-year-old Stan Moody 4-1.
Michael Holt beat female Thai player Mink Nutcharut 4-0 to set up a meeting with world number one Judd Trump.
There were also wins for Anthony McGill, Ben Woollaston and Ricky Walden.
