Aaron Hill has booked his place at the Northern Ireland Open after seeing off Gao Yang 4-1 in his qualifier in Leicester.

Hill, who has qualified for the Saudi Arabia Masters, the Wuhan Open and the Grand Prix already this season, hit the ground running with a break of 103 in the first.

Further breaks of 60 and 52 helped him over the line, and he's set to return to the Waterfront Hall, where he reached the last 16 in two years ago.

It was also a good day for Antrim man Jordan Brown as he saw off Mitchell Mann 4-2 with a high break of 106.

But there was disappointment for both Fergal Quinn and Leone Crowley, as both lost final frame deciders and the chance to play in their home event on their respective first seasons as professionals.

Tyrone-native Quinn, who saw off Robbie McGuigan in the first qualifying round, lost out to Zak Surety after his comeback from 3-1 down fell short.

Crowley also came from two down to force a final frame, but the Cork man couldn't get over the line.

The Northern Ireland Open takes place in Belfast from 19-26 October with Kyren Wilson as the defending champion.
