Ronnie O'Sullivan put in an excellent performance to ease past Joe O’Connor 5-0 and progress to the last 16 of the Saudi Arabia Masters.

O’Sullivan will now meet either Chang Bingyu or Mark Allen after cruising to a whitewash victory that rarely looked in doubt, finishing with a break of 90 in the final frame.

O’Connor had briefly looked a threat during the first frame but missed an easy black as he failed to capitalise on an earlier O’Sullivan miss.

Eight out of nine long pots were missed by O’Connor who exited the tournament inside 65 minutes.

A fine display by Oliver Lines saw him beat defending champion Judd Trump 5-3 to set up a last-16 meeting with either Ali Carter or Gary Wilson.

Lines produced an excellent fightback from a frame down after Trump had taken the first, hitting two centuries to move into a 4-1 lead.

World number one Trump clawed it back to 4-3 as Lines frittered away more than one opportunity to clinch the match.

But after a nervous final frame in which another chance to seal progression was spurned, Lines rediscovered his cool to finally got over the line, killing off the fightback with a third century of the match.
