Ken Doherty failed in his bid to secure a spot in the Wuhan Open in August, losing his qualifier against Ben Woollaston 5-1 in Leicester.

With Aaron Hill and Jordan Brown also in situ for the tournament, 1997 world champion and world number 122 Doherty was hoping to join the Irish pair, but came up short against the English player.

Earlier this week Hill saw off England's Sam Craigie 5-1 with four breaks over 50, while world number 53 Brown beat Duane Jones 5-1. The Antrim man is back in action today in Leicester where he plays Louis Heathcote for a place in the final stages of the British Open, which begins in September.

Fergal Quinn and Leone Crowley also missed out on the tournament proper on their respective WST debuts.

Quinn lost out 5-0 to world number 46 Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, while Crowley also lost 5-0 to 2010 world champion Neil Robertson.
