Kyren Wilson booked his place in the semi-finals of the Players Championship with a 6-3 victory over Mark Williams in Telford.

Wilson cruised into a 2-0 lead but lost the third frame after missing a risky plant and Williams got back on level terms with a break of 68.

Wilson took the fifth frame to edge back in front and although Williams hit back again to make it 3-3, the world champion reeled off the next three frames with breaks of 61, 79 and 71.

"Mark's so good you can't allow him into a match and at 2-0 I should have gone into the interval at least 3-1 up," Wilson, who will play either Mark Selby or Neil Robertson in the last four, told ITV4.

"If anything Mark probably felt he won that little mini-session to go 2-2 so it was about resetting, going into the practice room, hitting a few balls and I came out and won the next frame to go 3-2 and it set me back on the right path."

Earlier in the day, China's Xiao Guodong beat compatriot Wu Yize 6-5 in round one thanks to a break of 73 in the decider.

Wu won the opening frame with a break of 131 and forced the decider with another century but Xiao made his winning contribution after fluking a red with a hit-and-hope escape from a snooker.

Xiao will face John Higgins in the quarter-finals after the Scot edged out Chris Wakelin 6-5.

Wakelin missed the final red along the cushion on a break of 51 in the decider and Higgins - whose highest break in the match was just 61 - cleared to the pink to win a hard-fought contest which lasted four hours and 45 minutes.
