Jackson Page kept the home flag flying as he eased into the quarter-finals of the Welsh Open in Llandudno.

Page, who is bidding to become the first Welsh winner of the title since Mark Williams in 1999, needed less than an hour to defeat Tom Ford 4-0.

"Welsh snooker is thriving, there are a lot of us on tour doing well," said the 23-year-old on wst.tv.

"This is a great venue, the fans have been brilliant and I am grateful for their support. I'm having a good season and I just want to have as many deep runs as I can."

A record four Welsh players reached the last 16 but Page, who will next play former world champion Luca Brecel, is the only one remaining.

Matthew Stevens was beaten 4-1 by Joe O'Connor while Mark Selby was a comprehensive 4-0 winner over Jamie Jones and Ryan Day lost 4-1 to Ali Carter.

Scot John Higgins is yet to drop a frame and a 4-0 victory over Yuan Sijun sent him through to a 145th ranking event quarter-final - one adrift of Ronnie O'Sullivan's record.

Stephen Maguire reached his first quarter-final of the season with a 4-2 success against Sanderson Lam.
