13-year-old Shaun Liu makes history at Shoot Out

Thirteen-year-old Shaun Liu became the youngest winner of a televised ranking match as the BetVictor Shoot Out began on Wednesday.

The wildcard entrant from Hong Kong edged India's Ishpreet Singh Chadha 57-52 in the first round of the quickfire tournament in Swansea, where matches are played over one frame of 10 minutes’ duration.

Chadha rallied from 21 points down in the final minute but his attempted fightback just fell short.

At the opposite end of the experience scale, 61-year-old veteran Jimmy White was unable to pull off a comeback against Zak Surety.

The six-time World Championship runner-up trailed by 36 points when he came back to the table with less than three minutes remaining and would have won by clearing up but missed a straightforward blue.

There were also victories for Mark Allen, Ali Carter and title-holder Chris Wakelin but former world champion Stuart Bingham was beaten by Germany’s Lukas Kleckers.
