Aaron Hill is into the last 16 of the Northern Ireland Open for the first time after a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Dylan Emery at the Waterfront Hall this afternoon.

Hill achieved his best ever result at the Wuhan Open earlier this month, where he reached the quarter finals, and he has brought some of that form to Belfast.

Last season the Cork man shocked Judd Trump in his opening match but couldn't follow up the result, but the world number 67 is in the form of his professional career at the moment.

Like his victory over Fan Zhengyi in the last round, Hill won the two crucial scrappy frames - the first and the third - and was able to knock in breaks of 94 and 69 in the others to see out the whitewash result.

The win sets up a meeting with Jack Lisowski, who defeated Matt Selt in the evening in a bizarre match.

Selt cut a frustrated figure, engaging in theatrics as he had a poor run of luck, before the scoreboard went down - as it had on Sunday - in what would prove to be the final frame.

Antrim man Jordan Brown was knocked out by Yuan Sijun in the evening session on a 4-2 scoreline.

Brown took the opener and was level at 2-2, but Yuan was scoring more heavily when the chances presented themselves as he knocked in breaks of 100, 97 and 77.

Elsewhere, 17-year-old Stan Moody beat world number 18 Gary Wilson 4-2 to advance. Moody produced breaks of 63 and 61 en route to a third consecutive win, booking a match against Yuan Sijun on Thursday.

World number nine Mark Williams crashed out to Robbie Williams 4-2, Shaun Murphy did not drop a single frame when he dismantled Sean O'Sullivan 4-0, while Ricky Walden knocked out Stuart Bingham 4-1
