Aaron Hill is over the first hurdle in his quest to reach the World Snooker Championships but there was disappointment for Michael Judge at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Hill defeated women's world champion Baipat Siripaporn by 10 frames to 3, winning the four frames he needed to progress this afternoon, with high breaks of 59 and 60.

The 20-year-old, who is looking to play in snooker's biggest tournament for the first time, was never behind in the match, as a century in the eighth frame yesterday helped him to establish a 6-3 overnight lead.

The victory is his first in five attempts at the World Championship qualifiers, but he'll still need to win another three best-of-19-frame matches to book a place in the main draw for the Crucible.

Next up for the Corkman is a first professional meeting with Michael White, with the first session due to take place from 10am on Thursday, and concluding from 7pm that evening.

White's best performance this year came in Belfast as he reached the last-16 at the Northern Ireland Open, beating Ding Junhui along the way.

The Welshman is currently ranked 77th in the world.

It wasn't to be for Michael Judge in Sheffield

Elsewhere today, Judge went down 10-2 to Florian Nuessle.

Judge returned to the table this afternoon 7-2 down and needed a good start to get back into the contest, but Nuessle wasted little time in putting the match to bed.

The Dubliner had taken the opening frame yesterday but lost three of the next four to trail by one after five frames. It would be the last frame he would win, losing the next seven on the bounce to end his season, with defeat to the Austrian also meaning that Judge has lost his tour card.

The 48-year-old already confirmed to RTÉ Sport last week that he would likely go to Q School to try to secure another two-year tour card if he failed to qualify for the Crucible.

Hill's fellow Corkonian Ross Bulman couldn't halt an evening session charge from Barry Pinches and bowed out of qualifying with a 10-6 defeat.

Bulman held a 5-4 lead going into the concluding session, but Pinches won seven of the last eight frames, knocking in two tons (140 and 111) as well as five half centuries and will take on Fraser Patrick in the next round.
