Ronnie O'Sullivan claimed his place in the last 16 of the Welsh Open with a 4-2 victory over Ding Junhui on Thursday afternoon.
The six-time world champion twice recovered from a frame down to level at 2-2 before pulling away to secure his spot in the fourth round in Newport.
Ding did have opportunities in both the fifth and sixth frames but O’Sullivan, chasing a record-equalling fifth title, capitalised on crucial misses to set up a clash with Ricky Walden in the evening session.
Walden saw off Yan Bingtao 4-2 while Shaun Murphy crashed out 4-0 at the hands of Ryan Day.
Kyren Wilson recovered from 3-1 down to beat Matthew Selt 4-3 and Ben Woollaston overcame Barry Hawkins by the same scoreline.
