The 52-year-old former world champion triumphed 27-9 to book a place in the last 32 against Chris Wakelin, who held off Anthony Hamilton.

Before that, Cork teenager Aaron Hill will take on Mark Williams. The 19-year-old got past Jackson Page in the round of 64.

Fifteen-year-old Stan Moody, who made history by beating Lu Ning in the first round on Thursday, bowed out to his Leeds club-mate Oliver Lines.

Amateur Simon Blackwell continued his dream run with victory over recent Scottish Open champion Luca Brecel, and will next face Andrew Higginson.

Mark Selby, Mark Allen and Mark Williams were the big-name winners and Allen will open the proceedings on Sunday against Jak Jones, with the event being played through to its conclusion.
