Stan Moody, a 15-year-old from Halifax in England, enhanced his reputation as a future star of the sport by winning a match in the Snooker Shoot Out on Thursday afternoon.
Moody beat Chinese player Lu Ning 53-27 to reach the second round in Leicester. The tournament involves one frame per match which lasts for 10 minutes and includes a shot clock.
The former English Under-14 snooker champion already has a high break in match play of 133, while in practice he has compiled a maximum 147.
Moody has also won two events on the Under-20 regional circuit.
The youngster raised his hand in the air as the clock went down in an impressive performance as he defeated his Chinese opponent, who is a former UK Championship semi-finalist.
Several Irish players are in action in the competition including Mark Allen, Ken Doherty and Aaron Hill.
