World number one Mark Selby cruised into the second round of the World Grand Prix with a 4-1 victory over Barry Hawkins in Coventry.

The 38-year-old edged a difficult, 48-minute first frame 80-68 and although his opponent levelled with breaks of 54 and 76 in the second, Selby eased through the next three.

Defending champion Judd Trump progressed 4-2 having come from 2-1 down to beat Ben Woollaston.

Stuart Bingham, leading 3-1, held off a comeback from Ricky Walden to eventually progress 4-3 with a break of 124 to set up a meeting with Ali Carter, who beat David Gilbert 4-1.

Former world number one John Higgins lost to Tom Ford as, having been level at 2-2, the latter enjoyed breaks of 71 and 130 to close out victory.

Neil Robertson, Stephen Maguire and Mark Allen all enjoyed comfortable wins
