Aaron Hill has been beaten in his first round match at the UK Championship at the Barbican Theatre in York.
The Cork teenager went down 6-2 to Noppon Saengkham.
The Thai player raced into a 3-0 lead, including a 103 break in the first, but Hill took the last frame before the interval.
And he had reduced the gap to the minimum following a well-taken 130 in the fifth.
But Saengkham pulled away from there, winning three frames on the spin, including another century in the seventh, to book a place in the last 64.
There's more Irish interest tomorrow, with Fergal O'Brien set to meet Joe O'Connor in the morning before the all-island clash of Mark Allen and Michael Judge in the evening. At the same time, Ken Doherty will take on Sam Craigie.
Gary Wilson made his fourth career maximum break in a 6-2 victory over Ian Burns.
His maximum puts the 36-year-old Wilson in line for the tournament's £15,000 high break prize.
Wilson’s 147 is already the fourth main draw maximum of the new season, and follows Mark Allen’s similar achievement against Si Jiahui at last month’s Northern Ireland Open.
