John Higgins fired two centuries in the final three frames to wrap up a 6-1 win over Michael Georgiou in the first round of the UK Championship in York.

The three-time UK champion came into the tournament on the back of three straight final losses, including Sunday's Champion of Champions thrashing by Judd Trump.

But Higgins showed no ill effects as he brushed aside the challenge of his experienced opponent, whose own highlight was a break of 84 to temporarily level matters in the second frame.

Former world finalist Kyren Wilson fired a break of 110 as he joined Higgins in the second round with a 6-2 win over Soheil Vahedi.
