Ireland's Ken Doherty has advanced to the third round of the BetVictor Shoot Out in Milton Keynes, but defending champion Michael Holt's hopes of reaching the final for a third consecutive year were ended by Matthew Stevens.

Doherty squeezed past Mitchel Mann 18-15 in the one-frame format where matches last no more than 10 minutes, while Northern Ireland's Mark Allen, Gerard Greene and Declan Lavery also reached the last 32.

A break of 43 put Stevens in front in his clash against Holt, but he missed a red to a centre pocket to gift his opponent a chance.

However, the English potter missed a black off the spot when trailing 43-21 with two minutes remaining and there was no way back.
