Reanne Evans was denied the chance to make more snooker history as she was knocked out in the first round of the Snooker Shoot Out in Milton Keynes.

The record 12-times women's world champion was well beaten 63-5 by John Astley in her third appearance in the unique single-frame event.

Evans had been bidding to become the first female player to win a match in the televised stages of a ranking event.

The other female player in the event, amateur Rebecca Kenna, was beaten by Simon Lichtenberg on Thursday.

John Higgins, Jimmy White and 16-year-old Ben Mertens were among the winners on Friday as they booked their respective places in the last 64.
