Defending champion Mark Allen fought back from two frames down to beat Andy Hicks 4-2 at the 19.com Scottish Open.

The Northern Irishman was whitewashed by Stephen Maguire in the UK Championship semi-final last weekend but he bounced back with a steely performance in Glasgow.

Graeme Dott produced an extraordinary display in whitewashing Brazilian Igor Figueiredo.

Scotsman Dott's 4-0 victory included breaks of 137, 125, 71 and 69, with his opponent - world-ranked number 111 - failing to score a point in the entire match.

Former World Championship runner-up Barry Hawkins suffered a shock first-round defeat, going down 4-0 to John Astley, who is ranked 67 places below the world number 11.

Local favourite John Higgins saw off Jamie O'Neill 4-1 and Robert Milkins defeated Nigel Bond by the same scoreline.

Elsewhere, Mark Selby defeated Mark Joyce 4-2, and Selby's fellow former world champion Neil Robertson eased past Dubliner Ken Doherty 4-1.
