Breaks of 71 and 61 saw the Dubliner overcome Michael Georgiou by four frames to two. He'll play the winner of Jack Lisowski and Soheil Vahedi in the next round.
Elsewhere Jordan Brown overcame James Wattana by the same score, while Gerard Greene and Declan Lavery were beaten.
Meanwhile, Mark Allen and Fergal O'Brien are in action on Tuesday against Sam Craigie and Fan Zhengyi respectively.
