Judd Trump moved a step closer to a sixth title in a year by thrashing Michael Holt 5-1 in the quarter-finals of the Zhiyuan World Open in Yushan.

Breaks of 93 and 90 helped the 30-year-old take a 4-0 lead before Holt made a 74 clearance to get on the scoreboard.

But Trump quickly quashed any hopes of a comeback with a 50 break in the sixth frame to reach his 36th ranking event semi-final.

The result also means Jimmy White is guaranteed a place at next week's Champion of Champions event in Coventry, where he will meet Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Bristol potter Trump will face Scotland's John Higgins in a repeat of this year's final at the World Championship, which Trump won 18-9.

Higgins booked his semi-final place with a 5-2 defeat of Stuart Bingham, who crashed out despite making two centuries including a total clearance of 138.

The second semi-final sees Kyren Wilson, a 5-3 winner against China's Zhou Yuelong, meet Thepchaiya Un-Nooh of Thailand, who edged out David Gilbert 5-4.
