Fergal O'Brien is into the second round of the World Open in Yashan after seeing off Ronnie O'Sullivan's conqueror.

The Lucan potter beat Dominic Dale 5-3, knocking in two centuries in the process during a composed performance.

He'll now play the winner of Zhou Yuelong against Ben Woollaston.

Allen held off a Doherty comeback

Meanwhile, Mark Allen saw off Ken Doherty by the same score.

The Belfast player moved into a commanding four frame lead ahead of the mid-session interval, including a break of 130 in the second.

Doherty found his groove, reeling off three frames on the spin, including a century in the seventh, to leave the minimum between the pair.

But Allen took the last to advance to the last 32.
