Two-time defending champion Judd Trump's unbeaten run was ended by China's Tian Pengfei at the European Masters in Belgium.
The Englishman was bidding to win the title in Lommel for a third straight year but went down 4-2 in the second round.
A century break gave Tian a 2-0 lead and, although Trump fought back to level, the Chinese player pulled away again to claim victory.
World number one Mark Selby can steal a march in the rankings this week in the absence of Mark Williams and Ronnie O'Sullivan and he hit back from 2-0 down to defeat Mark Davis 4-2.
Mark King was the most convincing winner of the round, defeating Stuart Bingham 4-0. Bingham scored just 23 points.
