Chang Bingyu, 16, beaten by his boyhood hero Selby

Seven years after posing for a photo with Chang Bingyu, then an awestruck nine-year-old fan, Mark Selby was reunited with the local favourite in the last 32 of the Evergrande China Championship.

Selby eased past the 16-year-old 5-1 but Chang Bingyu was far from disgraced in Guangzhou.

World number one Selby came through a gruelling three hour and 40 minutes clash with Thailand's Sunny Akani to win 5-3 in the previous round but he was never in such trouble today.

Judd Trump had too much for Welshman Jamie Jones, who racked up a break of 127 but still fell to a 5-2 loss.

John Higgins, meanwhile, produced a stirring comeback against another Chinese potter, Mei Xi Wen. Higgins trailed 3-1 at one stage but dug deep to swing a see-saw encounter 5-4.
