John Higgins produced the highest break of the Dafabet Champion of Champions so far to see off Judd Trump 6-4 and book his place in the semi-finals at the Ricoh Arena.
The former world champion recorded a stunning 143 break to set up a last-four clash with China's Ding Junhui on Friday afternoon.
Higgins had taken the first two frames of their group-final meeting before Trump roared back to level at 2-2.
Yet with errors creeping into Trump's game and Higgins missing little, the Scot reeled off the next three.
However, Trump came from 52 points down to mop up and make it 5-3 and then cut the deficit to one, only for Higgins to win in style.
Earlier on Thursday, Trump fired three century breaks, including a 132 in the deciding frame, to overcome Anthony McGill 4-3.
Higgins had won the final two frames of his group-stage match to see off another former Crucible champion, Shaun Murphy, 4-2.
Ronnie O'Sullivan will meet Mark Allen in the second semi-final on Friday evening.
