Neil Robertson suffered a first-round exit at the Shanghai Masters but last year's beaten finalist Judd Trump cruised through today.

World number seven Robertson failed to find his rhythm against wildcard Ryan Day, who took three frames in a row before running out a 5-2 winner.

Elsewhere, Trump, who lost to Kyren WIlson in the final of last year's tournament, kicked off his Shanghai campaign with a 5-0 win over Ben Woollaston. The 27-year-old was rarely troubled and will now face Michael White in the last 16.

Stuart Bingham was another whitewash winner as he put together back-to-back centuries of 112 and 124 to comfortably beat Jamie Jones. World Open champion Ali Carter will face John Higgins in the next round after defeating Norway's Kurt Maflin 5-1.

Scotland's Stephen Maguire recorded a break of 121 on the way to beating Shaun Murphy 5-0, while Barry Hawkins made breaks of 50, 78 and 81 to cruise past Robert Milkins by the same scoreline.

Mei Xi Wen delighted his home fans as he rallied from 2-0 down to upset Mark Williams 5-3 and Stuart Carrington claimed three frames in a row on the way to beating Joe Perry 5-4.
