The Republic of Ireland team of Ken Doherty and Fergal O'Brien kept their World Cup hopes alive today with a 4-1 victory over Germany in China.

The result leaves Ireland in fourth place in their table but just two points behind Group D leaders China B, and a point behind second-placed England, who Doherty and O'Brien take on in their final group match tomorrow.

With five points on offer - one for each frame won in a five frame match - Ireland can overhaul England and should results elsewhere go their way, could yet claim one of the top two places in the group and progress to the knockout phase.
