The record for the most century breaks at the World Snooker Championship was broken today as Stephen Maguire made the 69th of this year's tournament.

Maguire made 115 in the 10th frame of his quarter-final match against Neil Robertson. The previous record of 68 was set in 2002 and equalled in 2007.

Stephen Hendry stands to win £157,000 for the 147 break he scored during his defeat to Shaun Murphy. That was the ninth 147 in World Championship history.

The standard has improved significantly since the World Championship moved to the Crucible in 1977.

In that year there were six centuries in the entire tournament, with John Spencer's 135 break the highest.
