Irishman Ken Doherty has won his opening match Malta Cup clash with a hard-fought 4-2 triumph over Hong Kong professional Marco Fu.
Fu, this season's Grand Prix champion, edged a scrappy opening frame, before compiling a cool 108 break to double his advantage.
But a determined Doherty rallied and, with breaks of 79 and 127, the Dubliner won the next four frames for a welcome win.
‘It looked a bit dodgy at 2-0 down, so I'm delighted to have started with a good win,’ reflected the world number four.
