Veterans Jimmy White and John Parrott rolled back the years to reach the final qualifying round of the World Championship in Prestatyn today.
White, six times the runner-up in snooker's top event, beat Widnes professional Andrew Higginson 10-7.
Parrott, who beat White in the 1991 world final, swept aside Welshman Gareth Coppack 10-3.
White, 45, missed out on a place in the TV phase at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre last year but moved a step closer to returning this season after pulling away from 7-7 with Higginson.
The 'Whirlwind' constructed breaks of 51 and 54 in the last two frames and will face Mark King in the final qualifying round at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield in March.
Parrott, 43, compiled a break of 92 in the first frame against Coppack and stormed into an 8-0 lead.
The Liverpudlian is the only player to record a whitewash at the Crucible but Coppack avoided this ignominy in the qualifiers by winning the ninth frame.
However, Parrott, who won a match in the TV stages of the World Championship for the first time in seven years last season, comfortably closed out victory.
He needs to beat Joe Perry in the final qualifying round to secure a return to the Crucible.
Thailand's James Wattana, twice a World Championship semi-finalist, was beaten 10-8 by Glaswegian Scott MacKenzie.
