Mark Williams and Shaun Murphy are the first two players to qualify for the quarter-finals of this year's Maplin UK Championship.
Welshman Williams, a two-time UK champion, resumed his last 16 match with Belfast's Mark Allen trailing 5-3 at the Telford International Centre.
But in an incredible turnaround he grabbed himself a 9-5 victory.
Amazingly, Williams had trailed 5-1 before winning two crucial frames yesterday to keep himself in with a shout of progressing.
The world number 12, who now plays either Scotland's Stephen Maguire or Preston's Ian McCulloch, impressed by winning eight frames on the spin to go through.
‘I managed to make two good 50s to go 5-3, otherwise I was close to going out,’ reflected Williams, who pocketed match breaks of 59, 57, 47, 48, 54, 54, 52 and 78.
A shell-shocked Allen, who had match breaks of 103, 50, 115, 55 and 69, said: ‘I don't really know what to say, I was diabolical in that (second) session.
‘I never got going at all, it was just one of those days. I was waiting for something to happen - and it never did.’
And while there was success for Williams, there was also plenty to smile about for Murphy, the 2005 Crucible champion.
The Rotherham player led Stuart Bingham 5-3 overnight, but wasted little time today to win the four frames he needed for a place in the next phase.
A 9-3 victory will see Murphy now lock horns with Chinese ace Ding Junhui.
‘I'm really pleased with the way I played,’ said Murphy, who had match breaks 70, 73, 53, 46, 67, 47, 73, 53 and 63.
Former UK champion Ding is also through to this year's quarter-finals after he beat Derbyshire's Nigel Bond 9-5 in the concluding session of their best-of-17-frame match.
The 2005 champion was deadlocked at 4-4 with golden oldie Bond in their last 16 clash.
But although Bond held the 20-year-old at 5-5, the youngster impressed to win the next four frames for a place in the next round.
Bond had match breaks of 95, 64, 70 and 49, but Ding - a three-time ranking event winner - pocketed breaks of 112, 58, 63, 56, 59, 80 and 100 to earn a quarter-final meeting with 2005 world champion Shaun Murphy.
