Galway's Vincent Muldoon is the 2007 Irisheyespoker.com Irish champion after defeating Limerick's John Torpey 8-2 in Sunday's final in Carlow.
The 16-year-old made a blistering start, capitalising on a number of mistakes by Torpey to seize a 6-0 lead in the first session.
Torpey took the opening frame in the afternoon session but Muldoon won the next to leave himself one frame from victory. Torpey made it 7-2 but Muldoon claimed the tenth frame and the championship after recording a superb 53 clearance.
The win for the youngster has gained him automatic qualification to the World Amateur Championships in Thailand in November, where he will be joined by Torpey who has taken over the number two spot this season. Muldoon will return to the Ivy Rooms for the start of the European Senior Championships next month.
Wexford's Rodney Goggins has been awarded the number one ranking for next season and will now move on to the professional tour after dominating the amateur stage this season. Goggins lost out in the quarter-finals but picked up the high break prize with a break of 137 in his first frame of the championship.
