Jimmy White's bid to qualify for the televised stages of the Royal London Grand Prix ended in disappointment despite him winning his last group match at Prestatyn today.

The 44-year-old Londoner beat Northern Ireland's Mark Allen 3-1 to register his third victory from six qualifying matches.

But with only two players progressing from each group, Allen later defeated Lee Spick 3-1 to win his fourth match.

Leicester's Tom Ford, who had already won three matches, was certain to finish ahead of White having beaten him 3-2 on Saturday.

White fell from eighth to 35th in the world rankings at the end of last season and his qualifying victory over Alfie Burden on Sunday was his first in a year.

He failed to reach the final stages of August's Northern Ireland Trophy and could be facing a battle to keep his place in the circuit if the slump continues.

Only the top 64 in the rankings after the 888.com World Championship next May are guaranteed of making the cut and White is likely to be ranked in the mid 50s after his Grand Prix failure.
