Ding Junhui set up a clash of the generations with Steve Davis in the Travis Perkins UK Championship final by completing a 9-4 victory over Joe Perry at York's Barbican Centre tonight.
The 18-year-old Chinese sensation produced some scintillating snooker in his semi-final and again displayed an implacable temperament to book a showdown tomorrow with a player 30 years his senior.
The world number 62 led 5-3 after the opening session, in which he compiled breaks of 129, 100 and 76, and pulled clear by taking three consecutive frames just before tonight's interval helped by some brilliant potting.
And to put the seal on an awesome display, the Shanghai youngster rounded off his triumph with a contribution of 131 in frame 13 and will now be favourite to add snooker's second most prestigious ranking title to the China Open he won as a wild-card entrant last season.
It means the oldest and youngest of the 48 players who have appeared in York over the last two weeks will contest the final, which looks sure to be one to savour with Davis aiming to capture a seventh UK crown 18 years after his last.
