Gray trying to focus on victory after maximum

David Gray must come down to earth after his maximum 147 break yesterday and concentrate on trying to reach the third round of the Travis Perkins UK Championship in York today.

The world number 14 compiled the 50th competitive 147 in snooker history when taking a 4-1 lead over Mark Selby but admitted he had struggled to regain his composure for the last three frames of the session.

Selby, who was also the opponent in the final when Gray won his only ranking title at the 2003 Regal Scottish Open, recovered to 5-3 and will still fancy his chances of a possible last-16 clash with Stephen Hendry.

"The match is still anyone's," says Gray.

"I should have won the last frame for 6-2, but it took a while for the adrenaline to die down and to refocus. I will just have to try and finish the job off today."

Gray's start to the season has been far from spectacular, jeopardising his place in the world's all-important top 16 for next term, so his maximum achievement represented a welcome turnaround in form.
