Australian snooker great Eddie Charlton dies

Australian snooker ace Eddie Charlton has passed away at the age of 75 in a New Zealand a hospital spokesman said.

Palmerston North Hospital spokesman Dennis Geddis said that Charlton had been suffering from a tumour in the bile duct for some time and died of a cardiac arrest.

Charlton was travelling in New Zealand for a series of exhibitions and engagements and fell ill soon after his arrival on Friday.

The Aussie ace was beaten in three World Championship finals - to England's John Pulman in 1968 and Welshman Ray Reardon in 1973 and 1975.

Eddie was still actively playing the game he had loved for so
long right to the end," said friend and colleague Ian Anderson.
